Due to the current budget crisis in the United States, lawmakers are turning to slashing foreign aid funds.
According to The New York Times, the foreign aid budget accounts for only one percent of overall federal spending; yet the suffering caused by these cuts is innumerable. The U.S. is essentially cutting off life support in Africa by decreasing food and medicine supply.
“Foreign assistance programs like the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the Global Fund for AIDS, TB, and Malaria have improved the health of women and children,” said President and CEO of Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Chip Lyons in a letter to get people involved. “Thanks to significant U.S. leadership and commitment.” However, this support may soon disappear.
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation urges you to join the cause and tell Congress not to turn their backs on people living with AIDS.
